We are actively seeking volunteer counsellors to work with bereaved children and young people within Cambridgeshire.
  • Are you a counselling student looking for a placement working with children? Or qualified and looking to build your experience?
  • Do you run a Counselling Programme with a child or young person element, and are looking for potential placements?
Stars delivers a comprehensive specialist counselling service to children and young people who have been affected by bereavement. We also offer pre-bereavement counselling to clients who have a terminally ill family member. We work in accordance with the Ethical Framework for Good Practice, as defined by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. All our volunteer counsellors undergo appropriate training and supervision and are managed and supported by our qualified counsellors. However, supervision can be negotiated to be provided in situ, if appropriate. All our volunteers are subject to a satisfactory interview, references and enhanced DBS checks before training begins. We have a great track record over ten years in helping students achieve their qualifications and in building new skills and confidence. Please note that our counselling sessions predominantly take place in schools between the hours of 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday. For volunteers outside of the city of Cambridge, a full driving licence and access to a car will be essential in order to reach appointments in your area. If you are interested in developing counselling skills specific to bereaved children please contact Lead Counsellor Ann-Marie McKiernan to discuss your options: Email: Ann-marie.McKiernan@talktostars.org.uk Phone: 07826 852193.
