STARS delivers pre-bereavement and post-bereavement support to children and young people with complex bereavements throughout Cambridgeshire. It has an excellent reputation and typically supports around 200 children each year. Much of our funding comes from grant givers such as Children in Need, Cambridgeshire Community Foundation and the National Lottery.

The one limiting factor is capacity - we cannot meet the demand for the service due to scarce resources. Income is the enabler that will allow us to employ more counsellors, build a larger cohort of skilled volunteer counsellors, and deliver more training to professionals; Teachers, Social Workers, etc - enabling them to provide effective bereavement support directly. A step change in fundraising activity is the solution to progress from “survive to thrive”.

An experienced professional fundraiser will prioritise bridging the 2021 funding gap as well as using their expertise to embed the systems and processes from which they can scale up a high performing fundraising function covering the areas of Trusts and Grants, Community and Individual Giving, and Corporate Supporters.

STARS represents a compelling case for support but remains relatively unknown to those that haven't called upon our help. There is huge untapped income generation potential and the Trustee Board has confidence that the appointee will have rapid impact. As income and capacity grows this post will grow too, in both hours and scope.

Applicants should therefore have ambitions beyond fundraising - the service needs a CEO and this post holder will be nurtured to take on that role in the fullness of time. The STARS Trustee Board includes some highly experienced executive leaders covering healthcare, business and charity and we will build a bespoke mentoring programme to ensure you achieve your potential and rapidly become a highly credible business leader in your own right.

If you have significant fundraising experience and the ambition to progress into a broader leadership role, email your CV to our Board Chair -
